This is our first step.
Does saying a thing out loud make it so? I think, in some ways, it does. It’s a declaration of intent, speaking a dream into existence that then allows you and the Universe to start figuring out this new puzzle.
It’s a scary thing to put a timeline and specifics out there. You run the risk of failing to meet your own expectations. You run the risk of exceeding them, too. You run the risk of a thousand things going wrong along the way.
But today, we’re one step closer to the dream becoming a reality. Because we’ve said it. Because we’ve started taking actions towards it. Because I’ve already started looking in closets and cabinets with an eye towards what we will need and what we can get rid of, which daughter will get which thing when we sell the house. Within the next five years — hopefully MUCH sooner rather than later — we will transition to full-time RVing with me working remotely and Chris taking over the job of chief travel officer.
Even before we settle on a timeline that is financially, personally, and professionally feasible, there are a thousand other decisions to make, changes to implement, etc. But I can SEE it. I can see us traveling, living, and working full time in an RV. We have a model (shown above) that gives us something tangible to envision the future, even if that doesn’t end up being the exact model that we go with. I can SEE it.
We’ve RV-camped our entire lives, so we’re not new to the science of RVing. We would be new to full-time LIFE in an RV. So, there would be plenty of things to learn and mistakes to make along the way. And a thousand micro-decisions to be made before we even launch out on our first night of our new life.
But I can feel us pivoting towards this dream, angling our plans and decisions in that direction. It’s no longer a “someday” thing; it’s essentially a now thing, minus one or four years depending on what our financial advisor says. But how exciting to know that “someday” is right around the corner.
So, I’ve started this blog to document our journey of a thousand miles, of a thousand steps to get from where we are today to where we want to go tomorrow. It helps us get one step closer to the dream.
